Connecting Your Slack Account

Connect WorkStory and Slack through the Slack Marketplace or WorkStory Integrations, authorize the correct workspace, and troubleshoot administrator setup.

In this article

The WorkStory Slack integration lets employees receive and complete WorkStory tasks in a private direct conversation with the WorkStory app. Administrators can connect the correct Slack workspace from the Slack Marketplace or from the Integrations area in WorkStory.

Before an administrator installs WorkStory

WorkStory does not create a public Slack channel. Each employee interacts with WorkStory through a direct app conversation.

Connecting a WorkStory account to Slack

Option 1: Install WorkStory from the Slack Marketplace

If WorkStory recognizes an existing account, sign in rather than creating a duplicate account or organization.

Option 2: Install Slack from WorkStory

This is the preferred path for an administrator who already has a WorkStory organization.

Connect an individual employee’s Slack account

After the organization integration is available, employees can connect their own WorkStory and Slack identities.

What employees can do in Slack

Depending on the organization’s WorkStory settings, employees can receive review and feedback requests, complete assigned tasks, give feedback, and open relevant WorkStory information from the private app conversation.

For instructions on proactive feedback, see Giving Feedback Directly in Slack.

Administrator troubleshooting

The wrong Slack workspace appears

Use Slack’s workspace selector during authorization. If the correct workspace is unavailable, sign into it in Slack before restarting the connection.

Slack says an administrator must approve the app

Your Slack workspace restricts app installations. Submit the request to the Slack workspace owner or follow your organization’s approval process.

WorkStory says the email already has an account

Sign in to the existing WorkStory account. Do not create a second account for the same person.

A team member does not appear in the invite list

They may already have a WorkStory account, lack an email address in Slack, or be an ineligible Slack account such as a bot or deactivated user.

The connection completed, but messages are not arriving

Confirm that Slack is the employee’s preferred communication channel and that the WorkStory app remains installed and authorized in the workspace.
